I am very new to this. What has your experience been like?

That is a pretty good strop.  I tried one out.  Good quality and gets the job done

My personal preference leans more toward a softer texture though, maybe because of the razors I use.  dunno

PS when you strop before your shave when do you stop stropping?

Very nice looking strop.  My problem is that I am pretty lazy, so I prefer a 3 inch strop (don't have to worry about X pattern).
If the razor has a good edge, I normally do 25 passes on the linen and 50 in the leather.
