I know that 1806087 refers to the injector system of sliding blades into a holder. This was first patented to inject a straight razor in 1931.
I then know that 1969945 refers to the head and not the handle. The first patent was applied for and granted in 1934 which is the injector with the diamond shape at the bottom of the handle. All subsequent years are based on this head model.
I know that 2058633, which is the all metal or alloy razor, was not designed by Schick, but used its system for blade insertion. Octavious Victor Rodriguez, applied for the patent in October 1936 using the same attorney as Mr. Schick did. However this was not designed by Mr. Schick.
I know that 2911713, which was the first redesign in 25 years of the handle and head, was invented by Leopold Karl Kuhnl and the blades appeared to be redesigned as well. The patent was granted in November 1959.
So from 1934 through 1959 no major improvements to the line were done. Where I differ in my research, which is still ongoing, from the author of the site is that he proposes that the serial numbers refer to machinery and plants where the items were made. On the contrary my research reveals that the numbers are just patent numbers with no dating. The 180 number is the patent number for the injector that accompanies the razors followed by the razors patent number.
The only way to track the progress of the razors year by year is through magazine articles, boxes, instructions, and hopefully Pfizer.
If you have any complete Schicks that have instructions or special offers with them can you scan them and email them to me so that I can let the author of the site in on this and then update my own information. What I am really looking for are copyright dates or this offer expires in X dates.
Your help is greatly appreciated. _________________ I shave with razors as sharp as my wit.
I went home and looked at the injector for my 66. It has the same number as the razor and a B348 number.
What I can gather from this is that the 180 patent number is the number for the injector delivery system and the 19 number is the number for the razor and newer injector. The B348 number is probably what the site owner was talking about with machines and plants. Problem is that if the injector gets separated there is no way to track anything.
The good news I guess is that if the injector patent matches the razor patent chances are they go together.
Still working on the information. _________________ I shave with razors as sharp as my wit.
I called Pfizer and was told that Johnson and JOhnson owns Schick. I called J & J. Nope sold it back to Schick. Called them and spoke to Liz. She is forwarding an email to corporate for the following.
Any information regarding the handle color, case color, box color etc, by distribution year. Eg. In 1933 black box white lining purple handle. Also any information that they have to identify the razor by year. Hopefully I will hear back by Monday.
Hopefully I will not get a big bugger off from them. I told them that I was only doing this for collectors and that I was not planning on writing a book or making money on the information. _________________ I shave with razors as sharp as my wit.
Yes, all the injector razors and blades are compatible. There were never the complicated patent-driven incompatibilities between injector razors that there were with double edge razors.
Here's a list I compiled a long time ago of many (probably most) Schick injector patents, plus a few others:
